It's all in the details
Behind The Scenes on the farm
1. Health practices
We use herbal dewormer when possible, perform hoof inspections every 4-8 weeks, FAMACHA parasite control. We only use an anti-parasitic when a fecal float test verifies parasite load is too high.
2. Genetics
We use farm bucks, live breeding and artificial insemination to shape the genetics of the herd. We focus on producing goats known for:
• Overall soundness & solid conformation
• High milk components
• Longevity
• Friendly Disposition
3. Disease-Free Farm
Our entire herd is tested annually for CAE, CL and Johnes. We have also incorporated Johnes PCR testing into our yearly testing schedule.
We have a CL/Soremouth free property.
All tests have been negative (disease-free) since the farm started in 2012. PCR testing on our Dexter herd along with our goats was last done July 2022.
We have also started testing for Brucellosis and Q Fever
